Medvedev arrived at the border with Finland and NATO
On September 5, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev visited the automobile checkpoint in Svetogorsk, which is located on the border with Finland.
During the visit, Medvedev noted that the border was "quiet, calm, no one goes anywhere."
He also noted that in the light of Finland's accession to NATO, Russia will take into account the changed nature of relations between the countries.
On the same day, during a working trip to the Northwestern Federal District, Medvedev said that Russia could not ignore Finland's membership in NATO. According to him, the country is building a military infrastructure on the border with the Russian Federation, and this fact is changing Russia's approaches to border protection and repelling possible unfriendly actions. Medvedev also stressed the importance of strengthening the protection of state borders in the north-west of the country.
