Zakharova joked about the EU's calls to abandon Russian energy supplies
On September 5, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova responded to a statement by European Commissioner for Energy Dan Jorgensen about the intention of the European Commission (EC) to permanently ban the purchase of Russian energy resources.
In her Telegram channel, Zakharova drew attention to a statement by Jorgensen, who said that the European Commission (EC) seeks to "permanently ban Europe from buying Russian energy resources so that not a single molecule of Russian hydrocarbons enters the European Union."
"Will migratory birds be shot at the border? After all, they may not be able to restrain themselves while flying over Brussels," the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted with irony.
Jorgensen made a corresponding statement earlier in the day. In his opinion, Europe urgently needs to solve the problem of dependence on Russian energy resources. The European commissioner also noted that there is "only one signal" from the United States regarding Russian energy resources in Europe — support for the cessation of their imports.
On September 4, Reuters reported that US President Donald Trump demanded that European leaders completely abandon purchases of Russian oil. It was noted that Trump made a similar statement during a telephone conversation with EU leaders during a meeting of the participants of the "coalition of the willing", which took place in Paris.
