WP: Putin sharply responded to the West's plans to deploy troops in Ukraine
Russian President Vladimir Putin has reacted sharply to Western plans to deploy foreign troops in Ukraine, calling them legitimate targets. This was reported on September 5 by The Washington Post (WP).
"Putin stated that any foreign military forces deployed in Ukraine would be legitimate targets, which was a sharp response to ongoing discussions between the United States and Europe on sending forces to guarantee a future peace agreement," the publication says.
On the same day, Vladimir Putin noted at the plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF-2025) that after peace is achieved in Ukraine, there will be no need to deploy EU troops. He stressed that if a consensus is reached, Russia will comply with all agreements and respect security guarantees that will be relevant for both Moscow and Kiev.
The day before, French President Emmanuel Macron indicated the readiness of 26 European countries to participate in ensuring Ukraine's security. He added that representatives of 35 countries took part in the discussions. In addition, the French leader clarified that the troops would be based outside the front line.
On September 3, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said that the "coalition of willing" to provide military support to the country looks "theoretical so far." At the same time, he noted that he believes in this coalition.
