The Republic of Croatia does not intend to send an army to the territory of Ukraine as part of security guarantees from the "coalition of the willing." This was announced on September 5 by the country's Defense Minister Ivan Anusic at a press conference after signing the declaration on military cooperation with Slovenia.

"We are not ready, do not want and do not plan to send the Croatian army to Ukraine," Dnevnik quoted him as saying.hr.

Anusic added that the country will continue to support Ukraine in other ways.

The day before, French President Emmanuel Macron announced the readiness of 26 states to participate in ensuring Ukraine's security after a possible cessation of hostilities. He added that representatives of 35 countries took part in the discussions. In addition, the French leader clarified that the troops would be based outside the front line.

On September 5, the "coalition of the willing" prepared a plan to create a security strategy for Ukraine. It is to turn Ukraine into a porcupine, a strategy also known as the Israeli or South Korean model. It was noted that the negotiations of the "coalition of the willing" are held confidentially behind closed doors.

Earlier in the day, Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a speech at the plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF-2025), stressed the absence of the need for the deployment of EU troops on the territory of Ukraine after peace is achieved. He clarified that if a consensus is reached, Russia will comply with all agreements and respect security guarantees relevant to both Moscow and Kiev.
