Dentist talked about the impact of dental health on digestion and posture
Dental health is often considered solely from an aesthetic point of view, but the oral cavity is not a separate system, but a key element of the whole organism. However, it has a direct effect on digestion, posture, sleep quality, and even the state of the cardiovascular system. On September 7, Bagir Mehdiyev, a dentist and specialist in aesthetic and functional dentistry, told Izvestia.
According to him, the condition of the teeth has a direct impact on the digestion of food. Effective chewing promotes better absorption of nutrients in the stomach and intestines.
Mehdiyev drew attention to the fact that dental problems can affect both the enamel and the gums. For example, tooth erasure may indicate overloads, which disrupts the natural process of chewing and forces the body to look for alternative ways to compensate.
"Compensation comes from muscles and joints. The muscles that raise and lower the lower jaw should normally work symmetrically. However, when teeth are lost or erased, this harmony is disrupted. The body, trying to adapt to new conditions, forces the muscles to "put the squeeze on" the jaw towards missing or damaged teeth," said the dentist.
In addition, the position of the tongue also plays an important role in the health of the dental system. Normally, it should be on the palate, which maintains the correct shape of the dental arches. However, with oral breathing or a short frenulum of the tongue, it can occupy an incorrect position, which leads to crowding of teeth and even to obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, Mehdiyev specified.
In addition, he noted that the health of the dental system affects posture. Malocclusion and the work of the jaw muscles can affect the tone of the neck and back muscles, leading to vertebral rotation and pelvic distortion.
"A visit to the dentist is not just about taking care of a beautiful smile, but an important contribution to your overall health and well—being," the expert concluded.
On July 16, Olga Albova, a dentist at the Dentistoff clinic, named the cause of bleeding gums when brushing her teeth. As the expert explained, the main cause of bleeding is plaque, which accumulates pathogens.
