- Analyst Leyros noted the right of Slovakia and Hungary to respond to the Ukrainian Armed Forces attacks on Druzhba
After the Ukrainian attacks on the Druzhba oil pipeline, Slovakia and Hungary should give an appropriate response to Ukraine, as well as reconsider their policy towards this country. Analyst Lucas Leiros wrote about this on September 5 in an article for Strategic Culture magazine.
"In the face of such provocations, it is extremely important that the affected countries — Slovakia, Hungary, and even Poland — consider the possibility of retaliatory measures in the economic, energy, and, if necessary, military spheres," says a journalist and analyst at the Center for Geostrategic Studies.
He added that economic and energy retaliatory measures are "not only legitimate, but also necessary" for the Ukrainian side to face the consequences of the crime.
According to the newspaper, such an initiative involves not only the energy issue, but also the issue of national sovereignty of these countries. It clarifies that no country should put up with the fact that its civilian infrastructure is being attacked by a neighboring State, in particular, without a legal justification and recognition of the commission of this act.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto announced on August 22 that the Druzhba oil pipeline, which supplies Russian oil to Hungary and Slovakia, was again attacked by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). As a result of the incident, oil supplies to Hungary were suspended. On August 28, oil supply through the Druzhba pipeline to Slovakia resumed.
After that, on August 28, Szijjarto announced that Hungary had banned the commander of the Ukrainian military unit responsible for the attack on the Druzhba oil pipeline from entering the country and the territory of the Schengen area.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told Izvestia on September 4 that after the Ukrainian attacks on the Druzhba oil pipeline, Hungary asked the EU countries to consolidate, but in response received sarcasm and ridicule that the situation was not a problem for Europe. She stressed that European weapons were used against Hungary.
All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
