Galleries of St. Nicholas Church have been restored in Pskov.
The restoration of the lost galleries has been completed in the Church of St. Nicholas of Usokha in Pskov. This was announced on Friday, September 5, by the press service of the city non-profit organization "Revival of Cultural Heritage Sites".
Experts have already dismantled the wall that covered the historic entrance to the northern gallery. Now visitors to the temple can see a preserved fragment of ancient plaster from the 16th century. This site is planned to be museumized.
Now the workers have started arranging the roof over the southern gallery and preparing the foundation for the installation of beams for the future roof of the northern gallery.
The restoration project was designed by architect Yuri Spegalsky. The work is proceeding according to schedule. Their completion is scheduled for the end of the current 2025, the Pskov News feed writes.
The Church of St. Nicholas of Usokha is an architectural monument of the XV-XVI centuries and is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. At the end of 2023, the facility was closed for a global restoration, including lowering the ground layer, opening and adding historical galleries, complete replacement of plaster and floors, and landscaping.
