Kiev called sending EU troops to Ukraine an unreliable guarantee
In Ukraine, they fear that the deployment of European Union (EU) troops in the country will prove to be an unreliable guarantee. This was reported on September 5 by The Military Times magazine, citing an unnamed Ukrainian official.
"A Ukrainian official <... He expressed concern that the deployment of troops on the ground would be an expensive guarantee of security with untested results," the article says.
The interlocutor of the publication wondered whether the European military would join the battle. He called the Sky Shield program, proposed by Europe to create an air protection zone, a more reliable guarantee of security.
Earlier in the day, French President Emmanuel Macron announced the readiness of 26 countries to participate in ensuring Ukraine's security after a possible cessation of hostilities. According to him, the contribution may include the deployment of troops, air and sea support and assistance in the reconstruction of the Ukrainian army.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, in turn, during his speech at the plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF-2025) stressed the absence of the need for the deployment of EU troops on the territory of Ukraine after peace is achieved. He clarified that if a consensus is reached, Russia will comply with all agreements and respect security guarantees relevant to both Moscow and Kiev.
