US President Donald Trump has not made clear commitments to impose new sanctions against Russia. This was reported on September 5 by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

According to the newspaper, the American leader agreed to joint technical work with European countries on additional anti-Russian sanctions.

However, according to officials present at the meetings, Trump did not make a clear promise to impose any new US sanctions.

The day before, the Bild newspaper reported that a tense telephone conversation had taken place between the European leaders and Trump due to disagreements on anti-Russian sanctions. It was noted that the European Union (EU) countries do not expect the American president to decide on the introduction of new sanctions against Russia.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on August 17 that the 19th package of EU sanctions against Russia would be ready in early September. According to her, the EU has already begun preparations for new restrictions.
