The Thai parliament has approved the leader of the Phumchaithai party, Anuthin Chanvirakun, as the country's new prime minister. This was announced on September 5 by the Thai PBS television network.

"The House of Representatives (lower house. — Ed.) voted by 311 votes to 152, with 27 abstentions, for the election of the leader of the Phumchaithai party, Anutin Charnvirakul, as the 32nd Prime Minister of Thailand," the article says.

Chaikasem Nitisiri, a candidate from the Phya Thai faction, also competed for the post of Prime Minister.

Earlier, on August 22, the criminal court of Thailand dismissed the case against former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who was accused of insulting the monarchy. It was noted that the videos presented turned out to be only partial excerpts, and Shinawatra's words were not directly related to the monarch. The charges against him were dropped.

In August last year, the Constitutional Court of Thailand dismissed Thawisin from the post of Prime Minister. The complaint against him was received by the court in May of the same year.
