US President Donald Trump, calling on the leaders of the European Union to stop buying Russian oil, puts them in a difficult position, pointing out hypocrisy and double standards. Malek Dudakov, an American political scientist, told Izvestia on September 5.

According to him, information about harsh conditions can be either true or false. However, if this is indeed the case, it underscores Trump's desire to show the European Union (EU) that, despite their public statements, they are not always ready to follow the stated principles.

"Trump puts it to the Europeans: 'If you want to seriously wage a confrontation with Russia, you need to match the rhetoric that you broadcast. And if you are not ready to do this, then you should seriously negotiate with our side," the source said.

The political scientist also pointed out the contradictions in the actions of European countries that continue to purchase Russian energy through third countries, despite their statements about the need to counter Russia.

On September 4, Reuters reported that President Trump had demanded that European leaders completely abandon purchases of Russian oil. It was noted that Trump made a similar statement during a telephone conversation with EU leaders during a meeting of the participants of the "coalition of the willing", which took place in Paris.
