Putin: Kiev's requests for a meeting not in Russia are excessive

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on September 5 at the plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum – 2025 (EEF-2025) that the proposals to arrange a meeting with Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky at the venues presented by Kiev are redundant.

"It seems to me that these are just excessive requests to our address. Next time, if someone really wants to meet with us, we are ready," the president noted.

Putin stressed that if the Ukrainian authorities are really interested in negotiations, they should come to Moscow, which is the best venue for such meetings.

Following the results of the third round of negotiations, Kiev has not yet responded to a number of Moscow's proposals.

On September 3, Putin called on Zelensky to come to Moscow if he is ready for negotiations. The Russian leader clarified that he had never ruled out the possibility of a meeting with Zelensky, but questioned the expediency of holding it.

Later, on September 5, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced that Putin had invited the Ukrainian leader to Moscow to talk, not capitulate.
