Zakharova called on the Russian media to better inform citizens about the Arctic

There is a lack of TV shows and media projects dedicated to the Arctic in the domestic media, which leads to insufficient information among Russians about life in this region. This was stated on September 5 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, during her speech at the session "The Arctic: Information Policy" at the Eastern Economic Forum - 2025 (WEF-2025).

"As an ordinary person, I don't have enough, not that it's not enough, but there are no programs, programs, or topics about the Arctic that would enter my life as an absolute reality," she said.

Zakharova stressed that in the information field there are only "spot stories" about disasters, construction achievements and discoveries of socially significant cultural sites, which, in her opinion, is not the agenda for most citizens. She noted that Russia is the largest Arctic power, which should be proud of and which should be loved.

"And to be proud and truly love, you need to know. We need to know. These should not be exclusive projects, they should not be by order, percentage, check mark, and so on. It should be a life," she said.

For this, as the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry added, professional speakers, "good reporting and documentary" work, regular replenishment of social networks, and the introduction of technological capabilities into content creation are necessary.

On August 12, Zakharova pointed to Russia's successful confrontation with the information war of the West by creating new mechanisms to refute fakes. She noted that the information disseminated by the European media is pushing the entire planet "towards disaster," so a new section has been launched on the Foreign Ministry's website, which will collect examples of the use of "hate speech" by representatives of Western states.

Zakharova pointed to attempts by foreign media to substitute facts and "redo history" at the technological level, as well as to forge archives using artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.
