Brazil is ready to expand military cooperation with China. This was stated on September 4 by Celso Amorim, Special Adviser to Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, in an interview with O Globo newspaper.

"We already have cooperation in the space and civil spheres. But when the army sends a general as an attache to Beijing, it means an effort to expand cooperation," Amorim said.

The adviser stressed that the rapprochement with China has become especially relevant against the background of pressure from the United States.

"This is a huge economy, our main trading partner. Trade is important, but it's also about investments and financial cooperation," he added.

Amorim also delivered a letter from Lula da Silva to Chinese President Xi Jinping and confirmed the Chinese leader's participation in the BRICS online summit on September 8.

Earlier, on August 31, it was reported that the Brazilian authorities were preparing for an extraordinary summit of the BRICS member countries. It was clarified that the country's leader, Lula da Silva, would discuss with the heads of 11 countries of the bloc the actions of the United States that could influence the development of the multilateral world. He also plans to hold a number of bilateral meetings.
