- Fox News has learned about Trump's plans to rename the US Department of Defense to the "Ministry of War"
On Friday, September 5, US President Donald Trump will sign a decree on the return of the historical name "Ministry of War" to the US Department of Defense. This was reported on September 4 by the Fox News channel.
"According to the White House newsletter, the decree provides for the use of the "Ministry of War" as an additional name for the Ministry of Defense, along with terms such as "Minister of War" for [Pentagon Chief Pete] Hegseth," the publication says.
It is clarified that this decision is one of the initiatives that the administration of the American leader has undertaken to form a "military ethic" in the defense department. The decree also directs Hegset to take legislative measures that would permanently approve the name "U.S. Department of War."
"In the United States, the military department was called the Ministry of War until 1949, when, in accordance with a series of large—scale reforms included in the National Security Act of 1947, it was renamed the Ministry of Defense," the TV channel cites a historical reference.
