Reports of an alleged lack of insurance and compensation payments from Russia in connection with the crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) passenger plane in Kazakhstan last year. This was announced on September 4 by the press service of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"We are dealing with another speculation about the tragedy in the familiar cynical style, designed for an emotional reaction from the audience/ Such insinuations do not correspond to reality. This is a lie," the statement said.

It is specified that since February 2025, the Russian insurance company AlfaStrakhovanie JSC has been making insurance payments. Thus, AZAL received the full insurance value of the crashed aircraft, namely 1,003 billion rubles.

"Claims related to the injuries and deaths of 46 of the 62 passengers on the flight have been fully settled, including payments for seven of the 15 Russian citizens, 35 of the 38 Azerbaijani citizens, all three Kyrgyz citizens, and one of the 6 Kazakh citizens," the ministry said.

The total amount of payments to the injured passengers and relatives of the victims amounted to 358.4 million rubles. At the same time, work for the purposes of a full settlement is still ongoing.

The preliminary report on the crash of the AZAL plane was published by the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan the day before. The document says that before the plane crash, the dispatchers talked about the introduction of the "Carpet" plan in Grozny. In addition, there was talk of "external objects" entering the structure. The Ministry stressed that the information provided in the report may be clarified and supplemented in the future.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on February 5 that relevant Russian agencies would have to study this report with due attention.

Prior to that, on January 24, Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Kanat Bozumbayev announced that the decoding of the black boxes of the fallen side had been completed and the materials had been returned to the republic. The Deputy Prime Minister added that Azerbaijan and Russia have copies of the recordings.

An AZAL Airline passenger plane heading from Baku to Grozny crashed near the Kazakh city of Aktau on December 25 last year. A criminal case was opened after the incident. There were 62 passengers and five crew members on board. 38 people were killed, including seven Russians.
