- The French political scientist called the EU's desire to deploy troops in Ukraine a provocation.
The desire of the European Union (EU) countries to send troops to Ukraine is a political provocation and an attempt to achieve escalation with Russia. This was stated on September 4 by Philippe de Vell, a French political scientist, lawyer, member of the Paris Bar Association, head of the doctoral program at Paris Descartes University, in an interview with Izvestia.
"The desire to send troops to the ground to protect Ukraine is just a political provocation in order to possibly achieve a conflict [with Russia]. Because a [potential] war [between the EU and the Russian Federation] would greatly ease the situation for leaders who are holding on with their last strength and no longer have the full support of the population," he said.
The expert noted that Kiev uses Western assistance, including American satellite information systems, to counter Russia. At the same time, the EU countries support the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, who, according to him, "is no longer elected head of the country." Such assistance also entails "enormous" financial and economic costs for European countries, including France.
The political scientist added that the support of Kiev from Western countries is hypocritical, since they understand the inevitability of Russia's victory, but they continue to show support for Ukraine.
"We are in an exemplary example of political hypocrisy, because the EU countries that supported Ukraine irrevocably and militarily know perfectly well that the conflict in Donbas is lost and that Russia has won this conflict," he said.
The source also said that European plans for possible security guarantees for Ukraine are "just talk," since the community cannot afford to provide Kiev with military support on the necessary scale. He further pointed out the weakness of defense systems in the EU itself.
Earlier in the day, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk ruled out sending Polish troops to Ukraine. He made the statement after a meeting of the heads of state and Government of the Coalition of the Willing in Paris. The politician added that Poland fulfills the important task of providing logistical military support to Ukraine by the West.
On August 31, European Commission (EC) President Ursula von der Leyen announced a specific plan for a possible military presence in Ukraine after the end of the conflict. Presumably, tens of thousands of European troops will form the basis of the troops, while receiving comprehensive support from the United States.
