Romania refused to supply troops to Ukraine
Romania will not supply troops to Ukraine, but will support the introduction of new sanctions against Russia. This was announced on September 4 by Romanian President Nicusor Dan in an interview with Antena 1 TV channel.
"Many countries that are here, next to Russia, have made the same decision as we have — not to send people to Ukraine. <...> Instead, we will provide logistical support. <...>..> operations using our bases," said Dan.
The Romanian president also called on the United States to join the sanctions against Russia.
Earlier, on August 22, Romanian Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan said that Romania would not send troops to Ukraine. The Romanian Prime Minister also noted that the country is ready to provide its military bases to NATO allies if this becomes a guarantee of security in Ukraine.
On August 21, the head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Finnish Parliament, Johannes Koskinen, said that Finland had no plans to send troops to Ukraine en masse. At the same time, he noted the possibility of participating in support activities such as maintenance, provision of expert opinions and training.
On August 19, it was reported that about 10 countries were ready to send troops to Ukraine as part of providing possible security guarantees for Kiev. This was clarified during the summit of European officials held on the same day. According to the agency, the prerequisite for such plans was the meeting of the leaders of the European Union (EU) with US President Donald Trump at the White House, which confirmed Washington's commitment to security guarantees.
