Nuclear safety at the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) remains extremely unstable, and the risk of a radiation accident remains. This was announced on September 4 on the website of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

"Three years after the IAEA sent its first team to the site, nuclear safety at the nuclear power plant remains extremely unstable, as the risk of a radiation accident persists as long as the conflict continues," said IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi.

Since September 1, 2022, 61 IAEA staff members have been deployed to the station. Grossi noted that their presence is of paramount importance, as they closely monitor nuclear safety on site.

Yevgenia Yashina, Director of Communications at the ZAES, announced on August 10 that the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are conducting daily attacks on the power plant. According to her, the attacks create an extremely difficult psychological situation and pose a direct threat to all personnel and infrastructure.

On July 28, Russia's Permanent Representative to the International organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov, said that the Ukrainian side was subjecting the staff of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant to psychological pressure. Ulyanov also clarified that Ukraine is shelling the satellite city of the Energodar station, where the station's employees and their families live. He stressed that this was a violation, but it was not possible to obtain a corresponding confession from Grossi.
