For a modern student, the ability to competently interact with artificial intelligence is becoming an important skill. However, it is necessary not only to "use neural networks", but to understand how to do it safely and competently. Elena Provozen, Director of Educational Product Development at edtech company MAXIMUM, told Izvestia about the rules for dealing with AI on September 5.

"Neural networks can act as a personal tutor: explain complex topics in simple words, help with homework in mathematics or physics, select materials for research projects or essays," she noted.

The expert clarified that they are especially useful when learning languages — you can practice pronunciation, translate texts together, and receive explanations of grammatical rules. AI is becoming a powerful tool for creativity: generating images based on text descriptions, writing music, creating scripts for videos — all this is now available to anyone who has access to the Network. In addition, these skills are becoming the foundation of the professions of the future.

However, behind these limitless possibilities there are also serious challenges. The main danger is the temptation to get a ready answer without making an effort to think. A student can simply copy a problem solution or text from a neural network without understanding the essence. This is a direct path to the loss of knowledge and independent thinking.

Another problem is reliability. AI, like any other tool, is not perfect. He may make factual errors, give out outdated or made-up information, and it can be difficult to distinguish such errors from the truth, especially for a child.

"Finally, there are risks associated with privacy. Any information entered into the chat with the AI can be used for further training of the model, so sharing personal data, photos or other private information is strongly discouraged," warned Karen.

The key task for a student is to foster critical thinking. You can't blindly trust everything a neural network says. The parent needs to teach the student to check the answers received from the AI: to compare the facts with textbooks, authoritative sources, to ask the teacher's opinion. It is very useful to perform combined tasks: do some of the work yourself, and some with the help of artificial intelligence, for example, to look for ideas for a project or check the literacy of the finished text. This is how a teenager learns to find a balance between using technology and his own efforts.

An open dialogue about the rules of digital hygiene is equally important. In addition, the parent needs to explain why they cannot share their last name, address, photos from their personal album or document numbers in the chat with the AI.

"Owning artificial intelligence is not about putting all the mental work on it. It is necessary to learn how to set him the right tasks, check the results and use him as an assistant to strengthen his own abilities," the specialist emphasized.

On August 21, Izvestia reported that every fifth (22%) working Russian had bought a subscription to AI services at least once. In addition, 18% of respondents used free versions of neural networks. Slightly less than 17% of respondents expressed a desire to purchase a subscription on a paid basis in the future. The average monthly expenses of Russians for such services amount to 5.7 thousand rubles.
