US President Donald Trump has said he intends to continue efforts to conclude a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine, despite the fact that the parties are not yet ready for negotiations. He said this on September 4 in an interview with CBS News.

"Something is going to happen, but they are not ready yet. We're going to do it (to reach a settlement — Ed.)," Trump said.

He stressed that his approach is to gather the leaders in one room and seek agreements directly.

On September 3, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that in order to achieve a lasting settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, new territorial realities must be recognized and formalized in an internationally legal manner. According to him, overcoming the crisis in Ukraine by peaceful means remains a priority for Russia. Lavrov noted that the heads of the Moscow and Kiev delegations continue to be in direct contact.

On September 2, Trump said that the United States could change its position on the conflict between Russia and Ukraine if there was no progress after the August 15 summit in Alaska.
