The letter with which Georgian President Mikhail Kavelashvili addressed his American counterpart Donald Trump is unlikely to help improve relations between the two countries. Political analyst Zaal Anjaparidze told Izvestia about this.

"Firstly, this message is written in a strange edifying tone, which is completely out of line with the Georgian president, who is clearly less influential than the American leader. Secondly, a similar letter has already been written by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, who actually has more authority than Kavelashvili. If that appeal went unanswered, then the current one will be a blank shot," the expert explained.

He adds that Washington is annoyed by the behavior of the Georgian Dream party, including Tbilisi's contacts with China. According to Andjaparidze, the ideal for Americans was the previous authorities of the country, headed by Mikhail Saakashvili, who fulfilled all the wishes of Western countries.

Earlier on September 1, Georgian President Mikhail Kavelashvili published an open letter to Donald Trump. In it, he complained that the United States is in no hurry to restore relations with Tbilisi, and the new American administration "does not say anything about Georgia."

In November last year, the US State Department announced the suspension of its strategic partnership with Georgia. Washington then explained the decision by saying that Tbilisi had frozen the process of European integration and was using force against participants in street protests.
