The doctor dispelled the myth about the harm of sweets for teeth
It is generally believed that the consumption of sweets leads to tooth decay and other dental problems. I dispelled this myth on September 3 in a conversation with Gazeta.Ru" leading orthodontist of EUROKAPPA Clinic Mariana Baragunova.
According to the expert, sugar does not directly affect dental health.
"The danger arises only when sweet residues remain on the surface of the teeth and between them. In this environment, bacteria that secrete acids begin to actively multiply. These acids are the cause of caries," Baragunova said.
As the doctor noted, products that have a sticky texture, such as toffee, caramel, and marmalade, can cause more harm. They are the ones that most often get stuck in hard-to-reach places in the teeth.
Do not forget about the harm of carbonated drinks. As the specialist added, the combination of sugar and acidic environment in lemonades and energy drinks enhances the destruction of enamel.
The prevention of dental diseases can be the observance of oral hygiene.
Earlier, on July 16, Olga Albova, a dentist at the Dentistoff clinic, named the cause of bleeding gums when brushing her teeth. As the expert explained, the main cause of bleeding is plaque, which accumulates pathogens.
