US Secretary of State Marco Rubio hinted at private meetings that the United States would not prevent Israel from annexing the West Bank of the Jordan River, where Palestine is located. This was announced on September 3 by Axios journalist Barak Ravid.

"Secretary of State Marco Rubio made it clear in private meetings that he is not against the annexation of the West Bank, and the administration of [US President Donald] Trump will not prevent this," he wrote on the social network X.

Earlier, on August 31, it was reported that the Israeli Government was seriously discussing annexing parts of the West Bank in response to the possible recognition of Palestine by several Western countries. It is noted that most of the international community considers the West Bank as an Israeli-occupied territory and will consider any Israeli annexations "illegal and provocative."

Earlier in August, Australia, Canada, France and the United Kingdom announced their intention to recognize the state of Palestine at the UN General Assembly (GA) at the end of September 2025.
