The growth of Russian energy exports to India this year is primarily due to the supply of oil, petroleum products and coal. On the contrary, gas supplies remain extremely low and are limited to periodic shipments of liquefied natural gas (LNG). This opinion was shared by a leading analyst of the National Energy Security Fund (NWF) in an interview with Izvestia on September 3. Igor Yushkov.

"When we talk about increasing energy supplies to India, we are referring primarily to oil and petroleum products. We supply gas there in extremely small volumes. LNG periodically arrives in batches, so it's mostly oil, petroleum products, and coal," the expert noted.

He also clarified that the growth is observed precisely in physical volumes, and not only in monetary terms.

"This year, we see that most likely we are not even talking about the total cost, but in terms of volume, because there is a little more coal, as well as oil and petroleum products in large volumes," the expert noted.

The analyst recalled that since 2022, India has become one of the leaders in importing Russian oil, second only to China in total volumes. However, if we take into account exclusively sea transportation, India surpasses China, which retains the first place in the overall standings due to pipeline supplies.

"India is not afraid of sanctions, it is not afraid of increased import duties, because abandoning our oil will be very painful for it. We are the largest supplier of oil to India," he stressed.

In his opinion, Washington uses the issue of Russian oil purchases as a tool of pressure on Delhi.

"The United States just wants to put pressure on India in order to force it to abandon not Russian oil, but to sign a trade agreement with the United States on terms favorable to Washington. India is resisting this, therefore, the Russian oil factor is here, it is just as an instrument of pressure, nothing more," Yushkov summed up.

On August 26, Reuters reported that trade duties of 50%, which were previously announced by Trump, have already begun to apply to India. It clarifies that the tariffs affected goods, which included precious stones, jewelry, shoes, sporting goods, as well as furniture and chemicals.

Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said on August 23 that the United States and the European Union (EU) countries, despite their accusations against India, continue to buy oil from it. He advised these states, if they have problems purchasing fossil fuels from India, not to purchase it anymore.
