AFD leader Weidel called Merz a security threat to Germany
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz threatens the security of Germany. This was announced on September 3 by Alice Weidel, co-chair of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.
"This chancellor poses a threat to the security of our country!" she wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
According to Weidel, Merz undermines the peace efforts of US President Donald Trump, instead of establishing a dialogue himself. She called his approach antidiplomatic.
Merz said on August 30 that Russia would end the conflict in Ukraine only under the influence of economic pressure. He added that the peace initiatives of recent weeks have been thwarted due to Russia's allegedly aggressive position towards Ukraine.
On August 30, the German Chancellor allowed the conflict in Ukraine to drag on, which, according to him, could "last for many more months." In addition, he added that next week he, together with representatives of the European Union and the United States, will discuss further actions.
