Russia has developed an AI assistant as part of the Far Eastern leopard conservation program

VTB, together with the Higher School of Management of St. Petersburg State University and the Autonomous Non-Profit Organization Far Eastern Leopards, have developed an AI assistant to help preserve the Far Eastern leopard. Olga Dergunova, Senior Vice President of VTB, Director of HSE St. Petersburg State University, Head of VTB Education, told about this during the WEF-2025.

"Together with the students, we have created a digital assistant that is changing the approach to preserving the unique nature of the Far East. VTB's key priority in sustainable development is to support projects that provide invaluable experience to young professionals and at the same time bring real benefits to society. Our AI assistant is an important step in building a digital ecosystem for managing natural resources, making decisions based on data and preserving biodiversity," said Dergunova.

The AI assistant made it possible to digitize and structure archival materials on the state of ecosystems in the Land of the Leopard National Park, the Kedrovaya Pad and Ussuriysky nature reserves. The program provides secure information storage, automatic processing of new data and allows you to generate analytical reports for researchers.

"Researchers have been collecting and storing data on the state of our nature for decades. Now, thanks to digital tools, this information takes on a new life and becomes an effective security tool. This approach allows us to respond more quickly to challenges, predict changes in ecosystems and make decisions that will help preserve the Far Eastern leopard and its habitat for future generations," commented Viktor Bardyuk, Director of the Land of the Leopard Federal State Budgetary Institution.

At the next stage, the digital solution is planned to be expanded by adding audio recognition and image processing from camera traps. The AI tool can be scaled to other protected areas of Russia.
