The member states of the European Union (EU) intend to increase military spending by €2 trillion by 2031. This was stated on September 3 by the head of European diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, at a forum in Brussels.

"Our military power has never been sufficient. We haven't spent enough money on military equipment. <...> Europe has embarked on the largest military project in recent history, spending €2 trillion on additional defense spending between now and 2031," Kallas said.

According to her, Europe has undertaken the largest military reinforcement in recent history. She stressed that she would continue to insist on accelerating the militarization of the European Union and push EU countries to further increase military spending.

Earlier, on August 30, Callas acknowledged the lack of funds from the European Union to finance Ukraine. At the same time, she stated that the EU countries have no consensus on the use of frozen assets of the Russian Federation for Ukraine.

Earlier, on March 21, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called the militarization of Europe a dangerous trend. According to him, these actions bring neither detente nor the restoration of an atmosphere of mutual trust. Peskov also noted that militarization does not add security to Europe.
