Stetsko spoke about the impact of the RIF synchrotron on Primorsky Krai

On September 3, Nikolai Stetsko, Deputy Chairman of the Government of Primorsky Krai, spoke about the impact of the Russian Photon Source (RIF) megascience scientific facility on the region.

"The most important thing is, of course, the meaning that the installation of such a project carries for Primorsky Krai <...>, for Far Eastern science. Because this is the future for us. The future we see in our children," Stetsko said at the session "Contribution of Megaprojects to the Development of the Far East" at the All-Russian Economic Forum 2025 (WEF 2025).

He stated that the megascience REEF class scientific facility is considered as a key infrastructure facility that will change the entire appearance of Russian Island. This is due to the fact that an engineering infrastructure will be created for this scientific facility. The government of Primorsky Krai will undertake obligations for electricity, water supply, sanitation, and the construction of highways.

Stetsko noted that the Russian Ministry of Regional Development has already decided to allocate financing for the construction of highways, and also approved a plan to create and develop infrastructure on Russky Island.

In addition, the construction of the Russian Institute of Photons is considered as the emergence of new opportunities for companies in the investment and construction development block. Thanks to this, the production of building materials will be established, and a large number of jobs will be created, including in service organizations.

In October 2024, Mikhail Kovalchuk, president of the Kurchatov Institute Research Center, announced that a megascience structure for nature-like technologies would be created throughout Russia. He noted that this is a huge program, for which almost 600 billion rubles have been allocated and fixed until 2032.
