A large-scale modernization of the street lighting system has been completed in Ulan-Ude. In five years, 31,000 lamps have been replaced on the streets of the city, Mayor Igor Shutenkov said in his Telegram on Wednesday, September 3.

"Outdated lamps have been replaced by modern LED lamps that provide brighter lighting. They make our streets much safer and more attractive," wrote the mayor, quoted by IA UlanMedia.

Work on replacing the lamps has been underway since 2020, UlanMedia writes. New lighting fixtures help to significantly save electricity — the load on the city's power grid has decreased by 65%.

An automated lighting control system has also been introduced in the capital of Buryatia. Each lamp is switched on and off remotely by the operator from the workplace. This increases maintenance efficiency and reduces operating costs.

According to Shutenkov, the replacement of lighting fixtures for the city was free of charge. The authorities have signed several energy service contracts with their partners, thanks to which new lamps have appeared. The saved funds were used to install new lighting networks in the private sector and new residential areas.

In early August, it was reported that 80% of the reconstruction of public utilities in the center of Ulan-Ude had been completed. The replacement of the networks started in 2024 as part of the implementation of the city's master plan.
