Zakharova called Stubb's statements about victory over the USSR obscurantist
On September 3, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF), called the words of Finnish President Alexander Stubb about the Finnish victory over the USSR in 1944 obscurantist.
"Look at Stubb's statements <...>. What did he agree on? That they, the Finns, <...> agreed with Russia, with the Soviet Union, in 1944, and now he has already agreed to the point that in 1944 Finland allegedly defeated the Soviet Union. It's kind of obscurantism, it's just the same as saying that two times two is forty—eight, you know?" — Zakharova declared.
She also noted that such remarks are allowed because "it's what I want today."
On September 2, Stubb, in an interview with The Economist, called Finland the winner in the war with the USSR. On the same day, Zakharova responded to Stubb's statement and called on the Finnish president to "turn bayonets" against the Nazis in Ukraine.
