The Bundestag proposed to demand compensation for the undermining of Nord Stream
The German authorities are not interested in demanding compensation for the disruption of the Nord Stream gas pipelines in 2022. This was stated on September 3 by the deputy of the Bundestag from Alternative for Germany, Steffen Cotre.
In an interview with RBC, he said that the government is "concerned about causing maximum damage to Russia" and therefore will not seek damages.
"In this case, compensation should be demanded from the guilty party," Cotre said, adding that Berlin would most likely not do this.
MP Mark Bernhard also stressed that the restoration of Nord Streams meets Germany's energy interests.
"One of the two Nord Stream 2 pipelines continues to operate. With its help, it is possible to meet the needs of more than 30 million gas consumers in Germany," he said.
Earlier, on August 28, representatives of the Kremlin expressed hope that the investigation into the terrorist attack on Nord Streams would be completed soon, as well as the names of the customers and perpetrators would be revealed. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted that Germany does not maintain contacts with Russia on this issue.
