Naryshkin recalled the common historical lessons of the Second World War
The peoples of the Soviet Union and China went through difficult trials for the sake of their independence, and therefore, based on similar experiences, they jointly defend the right to the historical truth about the Great Victory. This was stated on September 3 by Sergey Naryshkin, Director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), during the plenary session of the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Lessons from the Great Patriotic War and World War II: towards the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory", held as part of the Eastern Economic Forum 2025 (WEF 2025).
"Having endured unprecedented hardships, the peoples of the Soviet Union and China managed to defend their independence, but at the same time, as is well known, they suffered the greatest losses. Based on similar historical experience, our countries consistently advocate the preservation of the historical truth about the Great Victory as a common value for all mankind," he stressed.
The joint struggle against attempts to rehabilitate the ideas of Nazism and militarism is the basis for cooperation between states in the Asia—Pacific region, Naryshkin noted. According to him, it is necessary to preserve the memory of historical facts from the Second World War, as this is the key to global security.
"I am sure that the upcoming discussion, which will be attended by historians from several countries friendly to Russia in the Asia-Pacific region, will make a serious contribution to understanding the events of eighty years ago," Naryshkin said.
He also expressed the hope that this event would be useful as a joint effort to study this period of history.
Earlier that day, at the WEF-2025, the Corporation for the Development of the Russian Far East presented the exhibition "Street of the Far East". It is intended to tell about the love of the Far East: Primorye and Khabarovsk Territory, Buryatia and Yakutia, Magadan region and Chukotka.
The Jubilee Eastern Economic Forum (EEF), which runs from September 3-6, promises to be one of the largest in all its years, with representatives from more than 70 countries and territories confirming their participation. The key issues for discussion will be the introduction of modern technologies, the development of infrastructure projects and new logistics corridors, as well as the training of qualified specialists. Special attention will be paid to international cooperation.
