The economic situation in the Palestinian Authority is rapidly deteriorating, and this can lead to serious consequences for the security of the region. This was stated on September 2 by the US Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, in an interview with Axios.

"If the Palestinian economy collapses completely, it won't be a win-win deal for anyone. This will lead to escalation and further despair. Desperate people commit desperate acts," the diplomat stressed.

According to Huckabee, he is negotiating with both Israeli and Palestinian representatives to unlock tax revenues and stabilize the banking system. However, the negotiations reached an impasse after a number of Western countries declared their readiness to recognize Palestinian statehood.

The diplomat warned that prolonging the crisis could affect the lives of ordinary people. Huckabee added that there is great concern about how this will affect businesses, banks, and ordinary people such as schoolteachers or taxi drivers, as well as their ability to receive salaries.

Earlier, on August 31, it was reported that the Israeli Government wanted to annex part of the Western Bank of the Jordan River in response to the possible recognition of Palestine by several Western countries. Despite this, the international community considers this territory occupied and calls Israel's actions "illegal and provocative."
