Ex-head of Nizhny Novgorod Metro construction department arrested for bribery

The former director of the Nizhny Novgorod Department for the construction and repair of the subway, bridges and road networks was arrested in a case of bribery. This was announced on September 2 by the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the region.

"Today, the court granted the petition <...> for the election of a preventive measure in the form of detention in respect of the former director of the main directorate for the construction and repair of the subway, bridges and road networks in the city of Nizhny Novgorod," the Telegram channel of the department said.

Earlier, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation reported that in the period from 2024 to 2025, the accused helped a commercial organization win a competition for the construction and repair of highways in the regional center. He also helped her sign a municipal contract for construction work. For this, the defendant in the case, according to investigators, received a bribe from the founder of the organization in the form of payment for repair work in his apartment for a total amount of over 7 million rubles. At the same time, he was put on the federal wanted list.

The Nizhny Novgorod Investigative Committee clarified that the former head of the department is charged under Part 6 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Receiving a bribe on an especially large scale").

On August 24, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation announced the arrest of the former prosecutor of the Lodeynopolsky district of the Leningrad region. He is accused of accepting a bribe of 2 million rubles. The money was transferred from the defendant in the criminal case for assistance in making the necessary decision during the trial, the investigation of which was supervised by the Prosecutor's office of the Lodeynopolsky district.
