Analysts named the main factors for zoomers when applying for a job
Zoomers born from 1997 to 2012 are increasingly making themselves known on the labor market and are becoming the subject of active discussions in society and in the media. Generational theories are particularly relevant, which highlight their unique features, such as the priority of personal interests over work tasks. This is stated in the Selecty study and hh.ru "The source code of the ideal work of an IT specialist," which Izvestia reviewed on September 6.
The career trajectory of young professionals is changing significantly. For most applicants under the age of 25, a competitive salary remains an important factor, but only 54% of them consider it as the main criterion when choosing an employer. For specialists aged 25-30, this figure increases to 68%.
The results of the study confirm that zoomers place higher demands on working conditions. As we age, we pay more attention to salaries, career growth, and flexible work schedules. At the start of their career, salary remains the most important factor for them (54%), but later more and more attention is paid to growth opportunities (43%). Remote work and hybrid work formats also play a significant role, especially in the IT sector.
For zoomers who use job search platforms such as hh.ru the interest in flexible working conditions turned out to be more important than a competitive salary. Among the respondents on the platform, 45% consider the possibility of choosing a work format more important than salary conditions (44%).
The myths that zoomers prefer to work exclusively remotely are refuted by the real picture. Among candidates under the age of 25, only 5% prefer to work exclusively in the office, while 31.3% are ready to work according to a hybrid scheme, combining office and remote days. There is an increasing interest in hybrid work in older age groups.
However, Generation Z does not seek to work alone. Zoomers are actively looking for informal communication with colleagues. As they get older, their need for contacts through professional networks also increases. At the start of his career, this figure is 49%, and after 25 years — 55%.
In addition, zoomers are becoming less focused on a career abroad. Research shows that interest in working abroad is declining, and by 2025, only 25% of respondents under the age of 30 consider paying for language courses as an important benefit. The children of the social media age prefer stability, and the withdrawal of foreign brands from the Russian market has only reinforced these sentiments.
"Regardless of the generation, the leading motivation directly depends on the life situation in a particular period of time. That is, if a person is under pressure from a mortgage, then career growth issues may give way to financial arguments," said Ksenia Sheremetyeva, Selecty's Chief Operating Officer.
On August 31, experts from the Moy Delo accounting department told Izvestia that from September 1, 2025, changes will come into force in Russia that will provide teenagers with new opportunities for work. According to Federal Law No. 63-FZ of April 7, 2025, minors from 14 to 18 years old are now allowed to work on weekends and holidays exclusively during the summer holidays. However, employment conditions will be strictly regulated.
