- The speaker of the Iranian government spoke about the conditions for the Eurotroika's waiver of sanctions
The countries of the "Eurotroika" (Great Britain, Germany and France) are demanding that Iran hold direct talks with the United States in order to refuse to renew the sanctions of the UN Security Council (SC). This was announced on September 2 by the representative of the Government of the Islamic Republic, Fatemeh Mohajerani, during a briefing.
"They (European countries. — Ed.) they want us to negotiate directly with a country that itself withdrew from the treaty (the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, signed in 2015 by the United States, Russia, China and the Eurotroika. — Ed.)," TASS quoted her as saying.
Mohajerani called this condition strange and illegal.
Earlier, on August 28, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi announced that Eurotroika had notified the Islamic Republic of the launch of a 30-day process to restore UN sanctions against Tehran in connection with its nuclear program. According to him, Iran will respond appropriately to the relevant decision.
Russia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dmitry Polyansky, in turn, called the decision of the Eurotroika a step towards escalation. According to him, the initiative of the European countries has no legal force.
