If the driver inadvertently tore the refueling gun from the hose at the gas station, the gas station owner will draw up a report on the incident and the damage caused, and may require the driver to compensate it. Alexander Solonchuk, Director of the Avilon BMW Service and Spare Parts Department, warned about this.

"The gas station owner has the right to demand from you compensation for damage caused to the equipment (repair or replacement of a pistol, hose, coupling, etc.), as well as the costs of eliminating the consequences (collection of spilled fuel, cleaning of the territory) in accordance with current legislation," Rossiyskaya Gazeta quoted Solonchuk as saying on September 2.

If the gun is still pulled out, then the driver should promptly press the emergency button of the fuel pump, usually it is located on the pump itself and is marked with a bright color or the inscription "Stop", the expert advised. It is not necessary to insert the gun back or otherwise manipulate the equipment, since the fuel is easily ignited.

It is also important to report the incident to the operator/tanker immediately. The staff receives special instructions on how to deal with emergency situations and knows how to shut off the fuel supply at a specific pump, evacuate people and properly eliminate the consequences, the specialist noted.
