The Ministry of Industry and Trade announced a 25% reduction in the Russian car market%

By the end of January-August 2025, 877.6 thousand new vehicles were sold in Russia (up to three years), which is 25% less than in the same period last year, when 1.17 million units were sold. The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation announced this on September 2.

Sales of passenger cars since the beginning of the year amounted to 768.2 thousand units (-23% YoY), in the light commercial segment — 66.4 thousand units (-21%), trucks — 36 thousand units (-56%), buses — 7 thousand units (-49%). The market for new cars of domestic production exceeded 483 thousand units, which is 6% less than in January-August 2024.

The share of Russian equipment during this period increased by 11 percentage points compared to the same period last year. In August, sales of cars manufactured in the Russian Federation amounted to 75 thousand units (+2% by August 2024). At the same time, 60.5 thousand imported cars were sold during the month, which is 37% less than in August last year.

In total, almost 121.6 thousand new passenger cars under the age of three were sold in August. This is 1% more than in July this year, but 17% less than in August last year. Total sales of passenger cars in Russia for the period from January to August amounted to 768.2 thousand units (-23%).

Earlier in the day, it was reported that new car sales in Russia by the end of 2025 could be about 20% worse than in 2024. According to the analyst, about 1.25 million new cars will be sold in Russia this year, compared with 1.57 million passenger cars a year earlier.
