Sales of new cars in Russia may fall by 20% by the end of the year
Sales of new cars in Russia by the end of 2025 may be about 20% worse than in 2024. This forecast was made on September 2 by Sergey Tselikov, director of the analytical agency Autostat.
In his opinion, about 1.25 million new cars will be sold in Russia this year, whereas a year earlier the market amounted to 1.57 million passenger cars, the analyst's words are reported by TASS. Under a more optimistic scenario, sales could reach about 1.4 million units, and this is the maximum possible result, he noted.
As for the results of August, the market is estimated at 115-120 thousand units, which is approximately at the level of July. In September, sales may approach this indicator, but it is impractical to expect further growth (up to 130-150 thousand units, as last year), said Tselikov.
He also said that the share of Chinese cars in the Russian market could grow to 60-65% in the first eight months of 2025. In the first half of the year, brands from China accounted for 55% of the total volume of the Russian car market. At the same time, sales of new Chinese passenger cars in the Russian Federation decreased by 30% year-on-year, to 291.6 thousand units.
The day before, Nikolai Ivanov, director of the new car sales department at Rolf, said that dealers and distributors have about 400,000 new cars, which is enough for three to four months of sales, that is, almost until the end of the year.
