Almost 50 thousand people in the city of Akita, the prefecture of the same name in northwestern Japan, must evacuate due to the threat of landslides caused by ongoing heavy rains. This was reported on September 2 by the NHK TV channel.

"The city of Akita has ordered the evacuation of 23.1 thousand households and 46 thousand people living in areas designated as landslide warning zones," the publication says.

In addition, evacuation orders were also issued in the cities of Nosiro and Godzeme. The Noshiro of Akita Prefecture has announced the evacuation of 98 people from 58 households in the Nigorikawa and Tashiro districts of Futatsui City, which are at risk of landslides.

Godzeme also announced evacuations in the areas of Moriyama, Okawa, Babame, Umagawa and Futsunai.

On the same day, Reuters reported that at least 1,000 people were killed in a landslide in western Sudan. It was clarified that the incident occurred in a village in the area of the Marra mountains, only one person survived. According to the agency, the landslide occurred on August 31 after several days of heavy rains.
