- The Lithuanian Navy announced the start of military exercises with the participation of 17 thousand soldiers.
A two-month cycle of military exercises begins in Lithuania today. This was announced on September 1 by the country's Naval Forces on their account on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
"By the end of October, more than 17,000 Lithuanian and allied troops will train on land, at sea and in the air," the statement said.
The main purpose of the exercise is to test the defense plan and assess the readiness of units to implement it.
On August 31, large-scale military exercises of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) countries began in Belarus. The exercises are held at training grounds in the interior of the country or in its eastern part to reduce tension and demonstrate openness.
On the same day, Lithuania announced its intention to restore previously drained marshes on the border with Belarus, explaining this with measures to enhance security. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova ironically commented on the decision of several European countries to restore marshlands on their borders with Belarus.
