Chukotka is recognized as the safest region of Russia in 2024
The Chukotka Autonomous Okrug topped the rating of the safest regions of the country in 2024, showing the minimum crime rate in Russia.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, only 865 crimes were registered in the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug in 2024, which is the lowest figure in the country. It is followed by the Nenets Autonomous Okrug with 877 offenses, Ingushetia with 1,938 offenses, the Magadan Region with 2,499 crimes and Chechnya with 2,583 offenses.
"These regions remain the safest in terms of crime, which is confirmed by official statistics," the agency told RIA Novosti on September 2.
In total, more than 1.9 million crimes were recorded in Russia during the year, while the Central Federal District became the leader in their number, where more than 418 thousand offenses were registered.
Earlier, on September 1, a schoolgirl was severely beaten by two girls of her age in the city of Gusev, Kaliningrad region. It was reported that a criminal case had been opened into the incident on the grounds of a crime under Article 213 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Hooliganism").
