Over the past day, 29 aftershocks of magnitude up to 5.5 were recorded in Kamchatka. This was announced on September 2 by the main directorate (GU) of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in the region in the Telegram channel.

"During the day, 29 aftershocks of magnitude from 3.5 to 5.5 occurred. The tremors were felt once in the settlements of the region," the publication says.

The activity of the Kambalny volcano is also recorded in the Kamchatka Territory. In addition, the activity of the Bezymyanny, Shiveluch, Klyuchevsky, Karymsky, Krasheninnikov volcanoes continues. Tourists are not recommended to approach natural sites.

On August 30, an earthquake of magnitude 5.2 occurred in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of the northern Kuril Islands. The source of the seismic event, recorded at 09:58 (01:58 Moscow time), lay at a depth of 25 km, and residents of Severo-Kurilsk could feel its tremors. Semenova clarified that the tsunami threat had not been announced.

On August 27, the journal Nature Geoscience reported that a new tectonic fault is forming under the Atlantic Ocean, which can lead to powerful earthquakes and tsunamis. The authors of the work believe that over millions of years, water penetrated into the rocks and gradually weakened them. As a result, a new large subduction zone has emerged in the Atlantic, which in the future may cause devastating earthquakes and tsunamis, as well as the displacement of lithospheric plates.
