The DPRK has developed a new solid-fuel engine using carbon fiber composite materials. This was reported on September 2 by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) following a visit to the factory by the head of the People's Republic, Kim Jong-un, a day earlier.

"On September 1, Kim Jong-un visited the Scientific Research Institute of Chemical Materials at the Main Missile Directorate of the DPRK and met with experts in the field of research on composite materials based on carbon fiber," the publication says.

It is specified that the new solid-fuel engine has a thrust of 1960 kN. It will be used in the production of the Hwasong-19 and Hwasong-20 intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs).

It is noted that the head of state highly appreciated the development, and also discussed the creation of a base for specialized mass production of such products in the future.

On August 31, Kim Jong-un inspected the new missile production complex, which was put into operation. During his visit, the DPRK leader approved three new plans for the development of missile production and related defense spending items.
