Anatoly Velmatov, Executive Director of the National Association of Turkey Producers (NAPI), expressed support for the initiative to impose a moratorium on the bankruptcy of agricultural enterprises affected by adverse weather conditions. He stated this to Izvestia.

"The agro-industrial complex is heavily dependent on natural and climatic factors and veterinary safety, which are difficult to control and which are not always related to the effectiveness of farm management. In such circumstances, the moratorium will not lead to a delayed crisis, but will help preserve the industry's production potential," he told the publication.

He also added that in Russia only about 20% of the acreage is insured, which makes agricultural producers vulnerable to natural risks. According to Velmatov, the introduction of a bankruptcy ban will allow affected farms to preserve production resources and human resources, resume work in more favorable periods, and protect their investments, including preferential loans.

According to the head of NAPI, bankruptcy, although it allows creditors to partially repay funds, is not an optimal solution from the point of view of the country's food security. The moratorium will help prevent the loss of strategically important production facilities and ensure the preservation of key agricultural enterprises, Velmatov is confident.

Earlier it became known that the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation asked the Ministry of Economic Development to consider an application for a moratorium on bankruptcy of agricultural producers who find themselves in a difficult financial situation due to weather conditions. The issue of imposing a moratorium on the bankruptcy of farmers affected by bad weather was also raised last week by the acting governor of the Rostov region, Yuri Slyusar, at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Izvestia's source in the Rostov Region administration confirmed these plans.
