Exhumation of Polish soldiers of World War II completed in Lviv
A joint Ukrainian-Polish expedition spent more than four weeks excavating the former cemetery in the Zboyscha area. Experts have discovered two mass graves, which, according to experts, may contain the remains of 40 to 50 soldiers. This was announced on September 1 on the website of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine.
According to archival data, soldiers who died on September 12, 1939, were buried in the first pit, and those who died a few days later were buried in the second.
"These works are an important step in preserving historical memory and dialogue between Ukraine and Poland," the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine said.
The reburial of the remains will take place in the town of Mostyska, Lviv region. At the end of September, Ukrainian specialists plan to begin similar excavations in the village of Yurechkova in Poland.
Earlier, on August 28, Bogdan Bezpalko, a political scientist and member of the Council on Interethnic Relations under the President of the Russian Federation, commented on the differences between Poland and Ukraine. He noted that they would not lead to a serious rupture between the countries, despite the targeted deportations of Ukrainians and the ban on nationalist symbols.
