Magnetic storms of a planetary scale have begun on Earth. This was announced on September 2 on the website of the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy and Heliophysical Instrumentation of the Institute of Space Research (IKI) and the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics (ISSF). Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS).

"Officially, according to the global network of stations, magnetic storms of a planetary scale have begun on Earth. In the coming hours, the geomagnetic index will almost certainly grow, as data on G2-G3 storms are already being received from some stations," the publication says.

It is noted that the aurora zone will be formed in Canada and the Scandinavian countries. It is possible to observe this phenomenon in the north-western regions of the Russian Federation.

Earlier, on August 31, it was reported that a powerful G2-G4 magnetic storm would begin on September 2, after a plasma cloud ejected by the Sun reached Earth. At the same time, the direction of motion and angular dimensions of the plasma cloud ejected by the Sun exclude the possibility of its passing by the Earth.

On August 30, the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the IKI RAS reported that a plasma cloud had been ejected from the Sun towards Earth and a number of other planets. According to preliminary information, the ejecta has an average mass, and also does not correspond to the full reserves of matter and energy that were accumulated in the large central groups of the star's spots.
