CNN reported on Chicago's preparations for the introduction of the US National Guard
The Chicago city authorities are preparing to conduct an operation to ensure compliance with migration laws, as part of which forces of the immigration and customs police, the border guard service and other agencies may be introduced into the city. This was reported on September 1 by CNN.
It is noted that in anticipation of the operation, Mayor Brandon Johnson signed a decree aimed at countering possible repression by the administration of US President Donald Trump. Illinois Governor Jay Pritzker also said that he had not discussed plans for the upcoming raid with the head of state. According to him, such a step would be an "invasion."
"No one in the administration — neither the president nor any of his subordinates - called anyone from my administration or me. So it's obvious that they are secretly planning this invasion with the participation of American troops, if they really do it," he said.
The US Secretary of Homeland Security, Christie Noem, also did not rule out expanding the operation beyond Chicago. So, similar raids may affect the cities of San Francisco and Boston.
Earlier, on August 30, in response to the possible deployment of the National Guard by Trump, Chicago Mayor Johnson signed a decree regulating the city's actions. The document calls on Trump to reconsider his decision to deploy the National Guard to the city, emphasizing that the Chicago Police Department retains its independence and is under local control.
The Washington Post reported on August 23 that Pentagon officials have been discussing options for deploying National Guard troops in Chicago for several weeks as part of the US president's initiative to combat crime, illegal migrants and the homeless.
