The music school at the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in St. Petersburg, known as the "ten years old", will receive a new building. This was reported on September 1 by a correspondent of Izvestia.

On September 1, the 89th academic year since its foundation began at the Secondary music school at the St. Petersburg Conservatory. It was built at the beginning of the twentieth century, and musicians began to be trained and educated in 1936. It is specified that this school is part of the conservatory and is under the administration of the Ministry of Culture, however, the city music college is located in the same building nearby. The Government of St. Petersburg is responsible for it.

The condition of the building is still extremely dilapidated. It is noted that the last repairs at the school were done by the students themselves immediately after the siege of Leningrad. According to Alexander Vasiliev, rector of the St. Petersburg Rimsky-Korsakov State Conservatory, this building cannot be maintained due to "inappropriate spending."

"It is impossible to agree on this simply because today the law on public procurement does not imply trilateral agreements," he explained.

This spring, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed Culture Minister Olga Lyubimova to work on this issue. The problem was fixed: the educational institution will move to the complex of buildings included in the Nikolaevsky Palace on Labor Square. It has recently been taken over by the St. Petersburg House of Music.

It is noted that Sergey Roldugin, People's Artist of the Russian Federation and artistic director of the St. Petersburg House of Music, contributed to the resolution of the issue related to the condition of the building. The students received a new school building with an area of more than 12 thousand square meters in the city center.

"When the residents of St. Petersburg find out that this beautiful palace does not house something that few people knew about, but that it houses the residence of the St. Petersburg House of Music, the St. Petersburg Conservatory, and the St. Petersburg Music School Desyatki, they will be proud later, because this is their achievement, the achievement of our country is musical," he noted.

In addition, the Palace will also have a concert venue for the House of Music. However, there is still a lot of work ahead: for many years these buildings were rented out and no one cared about their safety.

Repairs and restoration will be carried out there at the same time: a recreation area with trees will appear in the courtyard, and classrooms will be located inside. One of the tasks is to take the cultural heritage as carefully as possible.

"Historically, there was also a concert hall here. In the new music school, the premises will be used in the same way. During the restoration, fire protection systems will be installed here, ventilation will be updated," Roman Ishmukhametov, a correspondent for Izvestia, said.

In addition, a boarding school will also be located here, as musicians from many regions of the country study at this school.

As explained by Andrey Malyshev, Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, the school will expand the area and will be able to "accept even more talented children not only from Russia, but also from other countries friendly to Russia." Restoration and repairs should begin immediately after the design work.

On July 24, it was reported that the restoration of the Great Choral Synagogue, which is an object of cultural heritage of federal significance, began in St. Petersburg. The project provides for the restoration of the dome, restoration and repair of the roof, wooden and metal rafter system. Specialists will also put in order the basement, granite porch, plaster surfaces, brickwork, stucco decoration and columns of the entrance portal. It is specified that it is planned to complete the work by the end of 2027.
